Reading Diaries

Each child, from EYFS to Year 6 are given a Reading Diary each term. Children are expected to read at least 4 times a week. Those who achieve this consistently across a whole term are rewarded during the final celebration assembly of the Autumn, Spring and Summer Terms. The class that has the highest percentage of children reading 4 or more times a week, for a whole term, get a trophy. Children who manage to read 4 or more times for a whole school year are put forward for a special reward. There is no sanction for children who read less than the expected amount. Instead, these children are offered opportunities in school to catch up with an adult or member of our school council in our ‘Reading Room’. How often the children read at home is tracked and those children who consistently read less than 4 times a week are prioritised for 1:1 reading during school time. Reading Diaries are checked once a week and the information is recorded on a spreadsheet which is monitored by the English Lead.
