EYFS
At The Milford Academy, the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) is an integral part of the school. We believe that the early years are very important for determining later attainment. By the age of five, the majority of children have achieved a substantial part of their adult cognitive and language development.
We aim to provide a personalised curriculum that embraces challenge and inspires children to be the best that they can be. Our curriculum focuses on core skills, knowledge and learning behaviours that form the basis of our broad and balanced curriculum. We follow the principles and program guidance from the EYFS Statutory Framework to ensure children become confident and resilient learners whilst widening their skills and knowledge. Our aim across the EYFS is to build firm foundations for all our children to enable them to be successful, lifelong learners and to develop the right learning habits in preparation for further education in Year 1, in order to follow the National Curriculum.
We use the Characteristics of Effective Learning (CoEL) of Playing and Exploring, Active learning and Creative and Critical Thinking, to support the process of learning so that children form attitudes and habits that will last a lifetime. Knowing how our children learn helps us to support them as individuals and provide the right personalised learning opportunities.
We do so much within the EYFS team, it is impossible to capture it all on the website, but do look through the documents below to give a summary of the curriculum we provide.
